Rough Cuts

When i was younger i used to get my haircut at a barbershop a lot like this one. I remember staring at the same place on the wall every time i got my haircut. The place was called Rough Cuts and only women worked there. They wouldn't turn you around to the mirror until the cut was done. Being only 7 or 8 i really didn't care much for what my hair looked like as long as they didn't cut my ears with the buzzer. This picture captures childhood fear i think. Being in someone elses hands besides your mothers scared you especially someone who handled scissors.

Fremont

The Fremont bridge has so much importance to Portland. Being the largest bridge out of many, gives it a superior look. The cold clouds, typical Portland and makes me at home.

Personal Image

This picture is up on Dead Indian Road. At this viewpoint my friends and I drive up there to reflect on Ashland. Being on the countryside really puts things in perspective for you. I mean I am from a large city where the sky is lit up at night. This viewpoint shows the otherside of civilization on the farms and hills of this city. The sun just barely peaking over the hill is the end of day for the town of Ashland. With clouds in the sky and the sun glaring in your face, everything else seems to drift away.

Swings

When i look at a swing set i automatically think about my childhood spent on them. This photo shows a history for probably a lot of people. The wet cold seats remind me even more because it always seemed to rain in Portland when i was a kid. I felt like it rained everyday there when i spent my time a the park. I mean the chilling feeling you get not from rain but just from wet seats is so strange. Normally in this picture it would be a kid with their parent behind pushing them but because its damp out no one seems to be around. Eerie

Personal Image

This image is very personal to me. I visited Japan in high school and cherished every moment of it. When i went to Kyoto i spent a majority of my time exploring the train station. With miles of escalators, you can see that life was constantly moving through here. When i sat at the top of the structure i watched everyone live. People getting where they need to be it was nice to sit down and observe that because most of the time tourists are more concerned at seeing things they have planned out but, when i was there everything was a spectacle.

Anfield

This is an image of Liverpool's stadium. Anfield is an important part the city Liverpool. Soccer being the most important sport for the UK it shows how many people are dedicated to their home team. This image gives you a feel for the city. If you ever visit Liverpool be sure to go to a game because for a lot of countries you experience culture through food but, i believe in England its through futbol!

Personal Image

This is an image of my Elementary school around the end of summer. These birds called "Swifts" circle above the chimney on top of the school and sort of tornado down into it to hibernate over the winter. It is quite the spectacle to watch. Every year hundreds of people sit on the hill with their families to watch the birds circle and create a black mob in the sky. Just before the sun goes down the last few make it in the chimney and the event is over.

Personal Image

This image to me has a story behind it. The way the shot is taken it looks like a scene from a movie. Also the foreground is focused on the straw while there isnt really any middle ground. The photos location gives it a sense that i could be at anytime in history. For me, i get a sense of tranquility everytime i look at it. Its like being in a movie and you can setup your own story all just through this photograph.

Personal Image FAST FRIDAY

This image is personal to me although i did not take the photograph it depicts the event for me perfectly. Fast Friday is a race throughout cities all on track/fixed geared bicycles. In my case I headed up to Seattle for the event and ended up crashing on someones couch that i never met before the weekend i was there. Fellow bikers like myself feel for each other sort of like a family. Its not about the race and who wins the event itself is gratifying. The lower right image shows the sunset in Seattle with a biker stalling in the air. The silhouette makes the picture more feeling and emotion.

Portland! personal image

This image has so many memories for me. I used to bike on the esplanade along the river every weekend. One of my favorite things to do at night in Portland is to race around the waterfront onto the eastside and come back around. The city is so lively at night and the river relects that life. Everytime i look at this image it makes me miss Portland more.

Personal Image

This picture is personal to me because it shows a tranquility when it has snowed. It shows a dark feeling that you cant help but feel like when you see a hitch hiker in the cold. Although this picture depicts Venice beach at night i like to think that its snow. You almost never see California this dark at night.
